Contract Highlights
Dear Friends: Thank you for selecting Sir Caletto for your mare. If you are requesting a contract, by this time, you should have been in contact with me either
via email or by telephone.
In an effort to work closely with breeders, I like to send a contract only after initial discussions about the mare(s) you wish to breed have occurred. And finally, please request a contract only if you plan to breed to Sir Caletto.
All contract information including name, address and email +
telephone is required before we can produce a contract for our mutual signatures Contracts can be faxed or emailed but information detailed above is required.
Silverhorne will produce an invoice detailing all charges as a cover to your contract.
You can leave addresses on the voice mail at (916) 351-1100 and be sure to leave a call back number. Or you can email to Barbara@silverhorne.com.
Return the contract as soon as possible, signed with a credit card
number to secure your booking. Upon our receipt of the contract, a book fee or full stud fee depending upon our understanding of your intentions, will be charged to your credit card.
Our expectation is that the contract will be turned around within 2 working days.
In an effort to facilitate this process, contract terms are listed below.
Thank you…Barb Gualco
- Contracts should, ideally be signed and a book fee or full
stud fee paid at minimum 30 days prior to your mare being bred. This ensures your place in the breeding queue. Signed/booked contracts take precedence.
- The 2006 stud fee is $2,700 including a $700 non-refundable
booking fee and a live foal guarantee (stands and nurses).
- The collection fee of $200 is paid when the contract is
executed. Two (2) covers are sent in every shipment and should be used on consecutive days, not all at once.
- The collection fee covers semen preparation and analysis,
one-way FedEx shipping cost and one high-quality shipping container.
- The contract guarantees two (2) full seasons for your mare
to be declared in foal. If your mare does not get in foal in two season you can simply pay an additional book fee to extend your contract for one year.
- If you are unable to use the contract in the year of purchase two
options exist: 1) forfeit of the booking fee and termination of the contract or 2) pay the entire stud fee and guarantee the current year stud fee along with one remaining season on the contract.
Again, if you are not successful getting the mare in foal, an additional booking fee will extend the contract.

PLAN YOUR BREEDING SCHEDULE!
Some important items to keep in mind when you are breeding your mare
to Sir Caletto. For the new breeder especially and for the experienced, a refresher.
Sir Caletto is covering as many as 70 mares per season and by all
indications the number is growing with each season…For that reason we collect him 3 days per week. But in order to service mares properly, we ship TWO (2) covers. They should be used on consecutive days,
not all at once to be sure your mare gets rebred in a timely manner if she does not ovulate right away. So in planning, with your veterinarian's help, a breeding schedule for your mare, be aware that any
shipped semen requires one day travel time.
Collections on Monday can be used for Tuesday & Wednesday breedings. Wednesday collections can be used for Thursday & Friday breedings. Friday collections can be used for Saturday & Sunday breedings. This leaves one day, Monday where semen is typically not available if it must be shipped. Of course same day air is always on option but it typically does not arrive earlier enough and ends up getting used on Tuesday we have found. So ideal breeding days are Tuesday through Saturday/Sunday for the freshest semen. Sir Caletto is very fertile, with high motility rates and the semen stays viable for several days post collection. We recommend that any semen be examined under a microscope prior to insemination for a complete understanding by your veterinarian of its condition and encourage reports back to us on same.
